I will lead an Oregon Trade Mission to South Korea and Japan from June 24 to July 1, 2006. I am inviting you to participate in the mission's promotional activities taking place in Japan.

Exports from Oregon were at an all-time high in 2005 and South Korea and Japan were, respectively, our 2nd and 3rd leading export markets. I want to build on that success with this mission. I plan to meet with current Oregon partners about expansion opportunities and to pursue new potential partners by focusing on Oregon's key economic cluster advantages. I am asking you, as a business leader and expert in your field, to accompany me on this trip to market Oregon as the preferred place to do business and visit.

The mission will start in Seoul, South Korea with meetings with current key partners. The mission will continue on to Toyama and Tokyo, Japan. Toyama Prefecture and Oregon celebrate the 15th anniversary as sister states this year, and Toyama will host an Oregon delegation reception on Tuesday, June 27. Tours will also be available. In Tokyo, a business reception will be held on Wednesday, June 28. A farewell reception will take place on Friday, June 30, also in Tokyo.

Mission delegates will have an opportunity to promote Oregon's world-class strengths in information technologies at a group of information technology trade shows taking place concurrently in Tokyo, June 28-30. Meetings with Japanese industry associations relevant to Oregon's key clusters will also be organized.

Attached, please find links to the itinerary and the information technology shows in Tokyo. For travel arrangements, please contact Moyra Meza at Azumano Travel at 800.888.7025 or 360.397.1721.

There is no delegate participation cost beyond your travel and accommodation expenses.  If you have any questions about the mission, please contact Craig Burk, Trade Manager, Oregon Economic and Community Development Department, at 503-229-6053.

Thank you for your consideration of this invitation. I look forward to your participation and representation in helping Oregon build economic and cultural bridges with two key international partners.

Sincerely,

Theodore R. Kulongoski
Governor of Oregon
